Kent School is one of the most widely known co-educational private schools located in Kent in Connecticut, America. Kent School goes back to 1906 when it was established by Reverend Fredrick Herbert Sill of the Episcopal Church. This school has students from all across the USA in addition to 30 other foreign countries. This school provides a curriculum which involves both academics and sports and gives equal importance to both these fields.
Kent School is among the members of the Founders League and competes in 32 varsity sports categories. The institution has 22 interscholastic sports and 56 interscholastic teams. Kent School has an established rowing team known as the Kent School Boat Club. This club was founded in 1922 and has three varsity boats. The fourth boat participates in varsity boat races. They’ve been consistent in their success in this sport and have won five times on their participation at Henley. The schools arch rival in sports is the Loomis Chaffe School. Their long standing rivalry culminates every year in the annual Kent V/S Loomis day where both the schools participate in a numbers of sports challenges. Kent School carries a very strong football team that has been the undisputed leader for six consecutive years in this challenge. The Kent school football team is additionally among the first private American schools which will play internationally in the fall. They are invited and sponsored by Global Football that is affiliated to the NFL. The Kent Football team shall compete against the Danish National Junior Squad in an event which is to take place in London in an initiative to market football.
Most of the success that Kent School has in its athletic endeavors could be attributed to its excellent coaches. Most of the coaches stay on campus and also have more opportunities of interacting with the students. This familiarity helps the coach to design coaching methods keeping the students in mind. The school has great training facilities both for outdoor and indoor sports along with a state of the art fitness centre. These facilities include 13 outdoor tennis courts, 13 playing fields, a cross country running course, a 25 yard, six lane, diving swimming pool, squash courts etc. To add to this is the 1200acre campus that includes the Appalachian Trail.
